Enjoy Your fats
So I left you wondering why I have so much butter for breakfast. And how it could be healthy. The truth is, our traditional fats like ghee, butter or coconut oils are actually very healthy, as long as you don’t overdo it. So why do you keep reading that they are not?Keep watching my Deep Dive on Fats, and I will tell you.
Why Saturated Fats are healthy
Let me give you one basic fact, based on science –the true villain when it comes to heart health is small, dense particles of LDL or Low Density Lipoprotein. These are responsible for buildup of plaque. Large fluffy particles of LDL, as well as HDL, are proven to be good for your heart. And saturated fats increase both these. Choose good fats over Carbs every time.
Don’t believe everything you read. Any carbs can be very harmful – because they get converted by your liver into Triglycerides – and these end up as small, dense LDL particles that cause plaque buildup in your arteries. Good fats from natural sources, on the other hand, promote HDL cholesterol, as well as large, fluffy LDL particles – both of which are good for the heart. My Advice on Fats to Eat
As you would have realized, I am for fats – and against carbs. But only good fats – which means, no trans fats, no over-processed sunflower, safflower or rice bran oil, no vanaspati. Stick to naturally occurring fats – yes, that means saturated fats, as well as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. So ghee, butter, coconut oil, olive oil are all good for you.
